Letter from the Director

Stay tuned to this space for additional information from CFS Director Brian Steward.

The Colorado Film School offers an unusually comprehensive variety of emphasis areas: Writing/Directing, Writing/Producing, Screenwriting, Post Production, Cinematography, and Acting/Directing for the Screen in our 75 credit AAS and 48 credit Certificate programs.

An evolving collaboration with Santa Fe University of Art & Design allows our students to finish up their four year degrees with a BFA in Film, transferring all their credits into a junior or senior year standing with a discounted (50%) tuition rate. The SFUAD Film BFA program is housed in the Greer Garson Studios on their campus where (2014) two TV shows are currently being shot: Longmire and Manhattan.  This collaboration between our schools is seeking permission to offer the SFUAD BFA classes at the CFS campus in Denver.

Our students hail from Colorado, most of the states in the US and a wide variety of locations throughout the world including: Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Columbia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, China, Japan, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Ghana, and South Africa.

We have an excellent faculty of working professionals with impressive industry credentials and connections, who are skilled teachers and mentors. Many have MFA degrees from the finest film schools in the world. All of our faculty and all of our courses focus on the primacy of story and the development of a unique voice in each of our students.

The Denver metro area offers a rich and varied cultural setting, and our famous mountains and ski resorts are only an hour away. Colorado’s 7,992 creative enterprises employ roughly 186,000 individuals, the fifth largest employment sector in the state. Film and media are the backbone of the creative economy worldwide, and Colorado’s creative sector is growing faster than the nation as a whole. Colorado’s Film Incentive program is small but growing. Three recently incentivized films premiered at Sundance 2015 and immediately found cash distribution deals, even as Quentin Tarantino lensed his new feature Hateful Eight in Telluride, Colorado.

Our innovative software program TheiaSys immerses students in industry standards, process, markets and practices as they write, plan, shoot and edit some 1000 films per year.  Through this environment, CFS students understand film industry inner workings in a way that is unique among film schools, giving our graduates a competitive advantage over even the most highly touted and expensive MFA programs in the world.

Please compare our facilities, faculty, infrastructure, curriculum, cost, mission, and the quality of our student work to any film school in the world. We pride ourselves on a challenging yet supportive environment for the collaborative creation of original work and craft mastery.

We are actively seeking imaginative students who are focused, energetic, ambitious, and eager to hone their professional skills for entry into a highly competitive field. We are the new and rising force in film/video/media education, and we challenge you to join us!
