Genius is searching for a Head of Video to to develop great and uniquely Genius video content and help our team run as efficiently as possible. Over the last two years, the Genius Video audience has grown from 20,000 to nearly 3 million Youtube subscribers; our video team has grown from 3 people to nearly 30. The Head of Video will be responsible for continuing and improving upon that growth trajectory—maximizing our output and audience, lifting the quality and diversity of our content, and positioning Genius as the defining voice in music and culture.

Expectations:

  • Oversee development, execution, and delivery of all video products
  • Improve publishing process in collaboration with tech team
  • Meet audience growth goals across platforms
  • Develop and maintain external relationships to support growth
  • Manage Video Team—plan and justify design, changes, and growth, including remote offices and freelance
  • Collaborate with Creative Director and content leadership on content strategy

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years video experience in media, 2+ years management experience
  • Advanced understanding of post-production workflows and media management
  • Expertise in budgeting and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Adobe CS, in particular Premier
  • Deep fluency in and enthusiasm for music
  • Understanding of different audiences across social media platforms

Genius is searching for a News Video Producer / Editor to join our News video team. A fluency in music culture—particularly hip-hop and pop music—is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Scripting, producing, shooting, and editing Genius News videos including Song Stories, lyrical supercuts and more.
  • Pitching daily news videos and concepting original news series.
  • Collaborating with Senior News Producer, video, and content team to break news stories and improve Genius News.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience in producing and video editing
  • Passion for editorially-driven, non-fiction filmmaking
  • Diverse visual style with strong sense of composition
  • Ability to quickly learn new production tools and news shooting styles
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, etc.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Fluent in the culture of social media and online communities

Bonus:

  • Experience in After Effects
  • Audio recording and mixing
  • Spanish fluency

Genius is searching for an Associate Social Editor to work as a liaison between our Social, Editorial, and Video teams and edit existing Genius content to tap into each day’s social conversation. We’re looking for a team player who has experience in video editing, music journalism, and/or social media and understands Genius’ unique voice and place in the music landscape.

Responsibilities:

  • Editing past Genius videos for new audiences
  • Creating original video content using templates
  • Posting daily video content on Genius social pages
  • Liaising with the Video team
  • Occasionally running social accounts

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in video editing, music journalism, or social media
  • Familiarity with Adobe suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc)
  • Deep knowledge in a wide variety of music genres, particularly pop music and hip-hop
  • Passion for finding unique stories about the making of music
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Attention to detail
  • A Genius account and active participation in the knowledge project (if you don’t already have one, sign up!)

Genius is searching for enthusiastic and attentive music fans to join our lyrics team as Lyrics Associates. The right candidates are skilled transcribers in their own right and even better at carefully checking the work of others. They’re attentive to detail and process, and never miss a step. This team will play a key role in making Genius’ lyric library the very best, within hours and even minutes of release, reviewing our library of lyrics and helping us build new lyric products.

*Note: This is a part-time, remote role, primarily Thursdays through Saturdays.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide complete and accurate transcription of new releases
  • Review and edit community transcriptions for accuracy and completeness
  • Match new release transcriptions to Apple Music database
  • Collaborate with Community and Tech teams to improve overall transcription processes and capabilities, including sync

Requirements:

  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Comfort with spreadsheets
  • Active participation in the Genius Knowledge Project and Transcriber community strongly preferred but not required
  • Fluency in a foreign language, especially Spanish or Korean, is a plus
  • Age 18+
