Seeking Volunteers for Mentoring Program

Thrive Center of Denver has just started a new mentoring program under the name of “REDEEM” and is seeking volunteers.

Redeem is a mentorship program that reaches out to African American males from ages 5 – 21 who are struggling with school academically and socially and are at risk for suspension, expulsion or dropping out of school.

The objective is to create an individualized experience that combines personal choice and community integration with a professional oversight, and family involvement.

A flexible approach will keep each child’s interest and goals at the forefront of what we provide.

Weekly meetings from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm (date to be announced)

Light refreshments

Monthly field trips such as:

Bowling, Movies, Laser Tag, Baseball games, Mountain visits, cookouts, concerts and more.

Staff and volunteers receive state and federal background checks.

Redeem Mentors will do the following:

• Build and support a trusting one-to-one relationship with male youth

• Background check (paid by us)

• One-year commitment

• Provide guidance for personal growth

Job Description 

Title: Youth Outreach Coordinator 

Supervisor: Project Director Approved: March 07, 2019 

Part-Time Position (20 – 25 hours/week Mon-Fri) Start Date: Immediately 

Job Purpose: To provide administrative assistance and mentoring for a THRIVE Center Project called REDEEM. This position will require the Youth Coordinator to outreach to organizations and assist and participate as a mentor to African American male students who have an intellectual/developmental disability who reside in the city and county of Denver. The position will also coordinate and arrange weekly and monthly recreational outings and organize social activities. 

Pay Rate: $15 – 18 per hour depending on experience 

Essential Job Responsibilities 
♦ Flows information to parents, mentors and professionals 
♦ Maintains accurate records; inputs information into database 
♦ Ensures that resource materials are filed properly and easily locatable to staff 
♦ Locates and participates in community events, fairs, festivals, etc. 
♦ Prepares invoices, reports, memos, letters, and other documents as assigned, using Microsoft Word, spreadsheet, database, and/or presentation software 
♦ Performs other duties as assigned by Project Director 

Decision Making Responsibilities 
♦ Performs job responsibilities with integrity and responsibility 
♦ Maintains confidentiality of information 

Organizational Relationships 
The Youth Coordinator reports directly to the Project Director. 

Supervisory Responsibility 
The Youth Coordinator has supervisory responsibility of interns and volunteers. 

Job Qualifications: Education or Formal Training 
♦ High School Graduate 
♦ One year related experience 
♦ Pass a State and Federal Background Check (at our expense) 

Required Skills and Knowledge 
♦ Strong commitment to work in a team environment 
♦ Strong willingness to take initiative 
♦ Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and management skills 
♦ Strong written communication skills 
♦ Strong customer service skills including listening skills 
♦ Proficiency with databases, Word and Excel 
♦ Experience with photocopiers and other office equipment 

Other Requirements 
♦ Ability to work some evenings and some Saturdays at various times of the year 
♦ Must have reliable transportation 

Preferred Requirements 
♦ College student in a related field
